iWaste ready for mandatory Digital Waste Tracking from 1 October 2026

Mandatory from 1 October 2026 · iWaste is DWT ready

Our in-house portal now reports directly to Defra – with no change to how you work with us

Defra is introducing mandatory Digital Waste Tracking for permitted waste receiving sites in England, Wales and Northern Ireland from 1 October 2026, with Scotland following in January 2027.

The new service creates a digital record of waste received at permitted facilities, replacing a largely paper-based process and giving regulators a clearer view of waste movements.

Digital Waste Tracking - iWaste is ready. Your collection, the iWaste Portal, Defra DWT service

How it works from 1 October

Your collectionBooked and collected exactly as you do today

iWaste PortalWaste received at our sites is recorded in the system we already run

Defra DWT serviceSubmitted automatically through our own API integration

A system built from the ground up

iWaste’s business software was designed and built in-house to run our day-to-day operations and to give clients a cleaner, more reliable service. It already covers:

Client CRM

Every client, site and contact in one place.

Job booking & collections

Booking and collection management end to end.

Digital waste notes

Full digital waste consignment notes and waste transfer notes.

Certificates of destruction

Generated automatically for every load.

Compliance reporting

Including hazardous waste returns.

To meet the new DWT duty, we have integrated our own API into that same custom portal. Waste received at our sites is recorded in the system we already use and submitted automatically to Defra’s Digital Waste Tracking service.

We are among a small number of UK waste operators that have chosen to develop and run our own integration rather than depend on a third-party software vendor.

That keeps control of data, process and customer service inside iWaste. There is no separate portal for our team to re-key information into, and no extra supplier between your collection and the official record.

What this means for clients

Your collections, recycling and certification continue as usual.
Booking, paperwork and DWT reporting all sit in one system.
You still receive full duty-of-care documentation and certificates of destruction.
You are not asked to change how you book collections or work with us.

iWaste is an Approved Authorised Treatment Facility (AATF) specialising in WEEE, electrical waste recycling, IT asset disposition and certified data destruction. Compliance is already built into how we collect, process and evidence every load. Digital Waste Tracking is now part of that same system.
