Wake Up & Smell the Coffee
Project
Disposal of unwanted coffee machines
Sector
Supermarket
Date
August 2018
Background
iWaste was retained, via compliance partner, Ecosurety, to dispose of unwanted coffee vending machines from 63 supermarket outlets.
Challenge
The supermarket giant had a legal obligation to dispose of the disused vending machines and provide evidence of the treatment, recovery and recycling of the equipment by an AATF (Agency Approved Treatment Facility). Failure to comply can result in fines or even prosecution.
Solution and Result
In compliance with the UK’s WEEE directive, iWaste handled the treatment, recovery and environmentally friendly disposal of the vending machines required by law.
At our Approved Authorised Treatment Facility (AATF) in Hampshire, the team stripped and sorted the stainless steel machines. 100% of the waste was either repurposed or recycled, saving it from landfill, in a turn-around time of just five days from collection to disposal.
