GDPR – How iWaste Can Help
From May 25th, 2018, the EU’s GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) are changing. Companies must ensure they are making amendments to accommodate this. Here’s how iWaste can help…
What is GDPR?
GDPR stands for General Data Protection Regulations, which were created by the EU to replace the current Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC. The regulation covers a wide amount of increased penalties, right to access, the importance of a Data Protection Officer and more. Being a regulation means it is a legislative act which is compulsory for all to follow.
How does this affect me?
Each company will need to follow the updates by transforming internal procedures, an example of this is; appointing a Data Protection Officer to oversee all policies which are put into place. The key changes relate to Personal Data. It is essential that companies prepare prior to May 25th as the penalties come into effect immediately. Businesses will need to assess their current procedures and make changes which they can present to show they are compliant.
What can I do?
There are a few initial steps you can take to start you off, these are:
- Complete an internal assessment of your current policies and procedures
- Document what changes you plan to make and how you intend to do so
- Destroy or securely archive any old data which is unused
- Put procedures in place which ensures you are compliant.
